Simplicity, humility, and gratitude.
These are the three core values of The Pilgrimage Way to Jerusalem, an initiative founded nearly four years ago by Yael Tarasiuk and Golan Reis. Their vision is to enable every person—locally and from around the world, regardless of religion, gender, or culture - to make a walking pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Along the way, pilgrims undertake a meaningful personal journey while being welcomed by diverse local communities, fostering multicultural, interfaith, and international dialogue.

“Each community along the route is a pearl,” say the founders. “As pilgrims walk the path, they thread these pearls together into a necklace - one they symbolically place around their necks as they enter Jerusalem through Jaffa Gate.”

The route stretches 111 kilometers from the ancient Port of Jaffa to Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem, crossing historical layers shaped by thousands of years of pilgrimage.

El itinerario conocido como Way to Jerusalem ha recibido el Premio Iter Vitis, Patrimonio Cultural del Vino 2025, otorgado por las Rutas Culturales del Consejo de Europa. Este galardón reconoce la labor de la ruta en la promoción de la cultura vinícola y su contribución al enoturismo, así como su enfoque en la conexión entre personas, tradiciones y territorio.

Seven participants in the “Way to Jerusalem” initiative arrived in Ramle this week as part of a journey from Jaffa to Jerusalem. The initiative seeks to revive the traditional pilgrimage route taken by pilgrims over centuries, from the ancient Port of Jaffa to Jerusalem. Ramla served as an overnight stop along the way.

During their visit, the participants toured historical sites in the city, visited the local museum, experienced the vibrant municipal market, and met with residents of Ramla.

According to the municipality, the aim of the initiative is to connect people, communities, and cultures along the route to Jerusalem, creating a cultural and spiritual experience that bridges history and the present. Ramla, located on the historic route between Jaffa and Jerusalem, is a key stop on this journey.

The municipality noted that the human connection and hospitality experienced by the participants continue the city’s long-standing tradition of welcoming pilgrims.

Ramle is not only on the map - it is on the way. A city that knows how to turn every stop into a story of people.

¿Qué les inspiró a iniciar “El Camino a Jerusalén”?

Esta iniciativa, creada en 2023, tiene como objetivo reconstruir las antiguas rutas de peregrinación a Jerusalén. Busca que personas de todo el mundo puedan experimentar un proceso de desarrollo personal durante su recorrido. A lo largo del camino, los peregrinos interactúan con las comunidades locales, fomentando el diálogo y las interacciones multiculturales, lo que conduce a la conexión entre las personas y a la creación de relaciones mutuas. Esto promueve el respeto y la tolerancia hacia el camino personal del peregrino, las personas que lo rodean y la tierra sobre la que caminan.

The association “The Way to Jerusalem” offers the pilgrimage as an extraordinary opportunity to get to know the places of the Holy Land and its history, but also as an occasion for meetings, exchange and human dialogue.

Tras varios años recorriendo caminos de peregrinación como el de Santiago, el israelí Golan Rice y la argentina-israelí Yael Tarasiuk crearon, primero, un grupo de FaceBook e Instagram donde recogían las experiencias de personas como Charlota Valenzuela que llevó a cabo una singular experiencia desde Galicia a Jerusalén, en cuyo tramo israelí se fueron sumando cada vez más personas, incluido un sacerdote cristiano, con el que recorrieron parajes como Guezer, Emaús, Abu Gosh, Latrún o Ein Karem, antes de llegar a la ciudad tres veces sagrada, desde el puerto de Yafo (al sur de Tel Aviv) a la Puerta de Yafo (a la entrada de la Ciudad Antigua en Jerusalén).
